The Complete WorldSmith Workflow: How One DM Preps a 6 Hour Session in 45 Minutes

The Ultimate AI Dungeonmaster Tool

You have an hour to prepare for your next D&D Session - which tool should you turn to? ChatGPT? Claude? WorldAnvil?

If you want balanced stat blocks that feel like real DnD monsters, magic items, dungeons, encounters, and spells the best tool is WorldSmith. WorldSmith not only organizes everything you create into easy to navigate folders, it is trained to create balanced homebrew that looks identical to the things you’ll find in the official Monster Manual and Dungeon Master’s Guide.

We’ll talk you through prepping a full 6 hour session one step at a time in WorldSmith, in a process that took this DM a mere 45 minutes. WorldSmith is extremely helpful for new DM’s, who may not have run a game of DnD before, but it can be used by experienced DM’s as well who just want to add some new homebrew into their games. This article will give you everything you need to write your own campaigns on WorldSmith and save hours of session prep.

WorldSmith is not a clunky AI Dungeonmastesr that generates stories for you and forgets details over long sessions. It is an AI tool for DM’s that assists in creating NPC’s, plots, and managing game mechanics. WorldSmith makes sure that all of your homebrew ideas are balanced and can be created in mere minutes. WorldSmith doesn’t make up the story for you - it is an AI tool that allows you to turn your ideas into reality.

Feel free to hop on WorldSmith.io and follow along while you read (they have a free 7 day trial! Your credit card info is required but it’s no cost to you for 7 days, and you can generate literally millions of creations during your trial).

Step 1: Make a New Campaign - 1 Minute

WorldSmith allows you to create unlimited campaigns, so if you haven’t already, make a new Campaign. This Campaign is essentially a master folder, wherein you can store unlimited pages, maps, calendars, timelines, monsters, sessions etc.

You’ll see that within the campaign you can create pages. Similar to Notion, OneNote, or Google Docs these are open pages that you can use to write anything you like. WorldSmith can hold your session notes, brainstorming, and future ideas. In addition to standard text WorldSmith can handle photo and image uploads, charts, drop down menus, calendars, maps, you name it. Think of it as an open sandbox where you can hold any and all of your plans for your campaign.

Remember - WorldSmith is not an ai game master, ai dm, or simple chat bot. It is a tool for real life DM’s like you to create epic adventures that feel like the video games and narratives you dream of, while still following the strict gameplay rules and balance of the game.

Step 2: Generate a Custom DnD World - 5 Minutes

If this is your session 0 or session 1, the first thing you’ll want to do is generate a World. WorldSmith has a world generator that can take your ideas for a campaign setting and turn it into a full mapped out area.

Where WorldSmith really shines is filling in helpful details you may not think about, like a timeline of events, religions, factions, history, and lore. Rather than pulling these things out of the aether, WorldSmith will use whatever notes you give it to build the world. The best thing to do is copy over all of your ideas into the Custom Note section of the World Generator and let WorldSmith do the rest.

All WorldSmith sheets are fully editable, so you can go in and change anything that you like! Feel free to also use the Enhance feature to add additional prompts in and craft a world you’re fully happy with.

Creating a custom world on WorldSmith takes less than 5 minutes, and will give you all of the backdrop you need to run a full campaign.

Step 3: Generate a Quest Hook - 3 Minutes

There’s a few ways that WorldSmith’s AI can help create a good quest hook for your next session.

First, you can use WorldSmith’s Session Generator. If you input details from the world you previously created or sections of your written notes from your campaign pages it will remember previous events and important lore from your world and use that to create an engaging session that ties the players into the world.

Alternately, you can generate an NPC, who will naturally come with quest hooks of their own! One of the easiest plot hooks that a new GM can use is simply giving an NPC a quest to hand out, and WorldSmith’s NPC generator not only creates interesting NPC’s with full stat blocks and abilities, it gives each NPC a quest that it can hand out to your players! Pick a region on your World and make an NPC fitting for that region, and you are already more than halfway there to having a full session.

The last way to quickly generate a Quest Hook is to use the Magic Item or Monster generator to give yourself a cool BBEG or a powerful magic item that can serve as the main plot point for the quest. Whether it is a monster that they need to slay or a magic item that needs to be destroyed, starting off with a Monster or Magic Item is a great way to quickly get to a session.

Don’t forget that with the Session, NPC, Magic Item, and Monster generator you can instruct WorldSmith to pull information from the World you have previously created, or link it to pages of your session notes, so that everything you generate stays rooted in your world.

Generating a Session on WorldSmith normally takes 2-3 minutes, including prompting, and generating a Magic Item, NPC, or Monster takes as little as 30 seconds to a minute.

4. Build Shops and a Town - 10 Minutes

WorldSmith’s shop generator is one of the strongest tools on the site, and can create a full shop with NPC’s, services, gear, and magic items in less than 2 minutes. Regardless of your play style, WorldSmith can accomodate, and happily makes anything from a cursed bakery to an eldritch forge.

You can save hours of your life by quickly generating three to four shops for your town so your players have plenty to do after getting their quest. Most adventurers (besides rolling dice and unleashing chaos) dream of spending gold on fun items, and every WorldSmith shop delivers on that in spades.

Creating three or four shops in WorldSmith will take you less than 10 minutes, and will fill your world with secret taverns and curio shops your whole party will adore.

Oh and I almost forgot to mention - everything you create on WorldSmith is fully shareable. Rather than explaining every detail to your palyers, you can copy a single link, send it via text or Discord, and other players will be able to access the full shop and explore it on their own.

5. Fill Your Town with NPC’s - 10 Minutes

Whether your realm is full of wizards, rogues, dragons, or barbarians, you can create half a dozen NPC’s in under 10 minutes on WorldSmith easily. Using drop down menus or linking to your World and session notes, WorldSmith will create a whole cast of characters that can become the friends or villains your group will embark on adventures with.

Every WorldSmith NPC comes with full stats so they can easily get into a fight, as well as social abilities or roleplay details that make them fun to integrate into every environment.

Generating 5-6 NPCs on WorldSmith normally takes 10 minutes!

6. Make a Dungeon Map - 2 Minutes

WorldSmith features an excellent procedurally generated dungeon map maker. It has a fine line style that you will love and looks great when laid on the table, and in addition to having a lot of menus that make it very easy to customize, it is fully editable!

Using the brush tool you can create your own hallways, rooms, and bizarre formations in your dungeon, making it fully your own. Unlike a standard ai dungeon which will just create something middle of the road, WorldSmith provides a jumping off point for you to edit to your hearts content, weaving secrets into each room.

Creating a simple dungeon map on WorldSmith takes no more than 2 minutes.

7. Fill Your Dungeon with Homebrew Monsters - 10 Minutes

WorldSmith’s true power is revealed in its monster generator. Let your full creative skills loose. Whatever vision you have for a wild boss monster or beautiful nature inspired nymph, describe it in the custom note and WorldSmith will make an extremely polished monster sheet as if it were directly in the Monster Manual.

Even better, WorldSmith’s monster generator is so fast that you can use it to adapt to the mess of the game on the fly. If your players suddenly go off track, rather than going into a fresh scene and having to pull a standard monster from the manual, you can quickly create a monster of any CR and description and have it ready to make an appearance in less than a minute.

Creating 8 monster stat blocks on WorldSmith takes about ten minutes, and can easily fill every room in your dungeon.

8. Time for the Loot! - 4 Minutes

It wouldn’t be a good duneon without the journey ending in some really solid loot. No matter what class they are, every player hopes for a lot of solid magic items and gold, and WorldSmith makes creating fun and engaging treasure super easy.

Just put in how many players you have, what kind of loot you are looking for, and some details about where it’s coming from, and in less than a minute WorldSmith will generate a full treasure hoard with magic items, cursed itesm, gold, gear, art, precious stones, you name it.

It excels at filling your players pockets with creative items, potions, and scrolls they might otherwise have missed, which utilizes all of the systems fun mechanics and make severy mission post dungeon that much more fun.

Adventure Awaits!

In just 45 minutes, WorldSmith made a full session with a world backstory, place for campaign notes, quest hook, multiples NPC’s, shops, a dungeon map, monsters, and loot. Enough to keep you rplayers happy for a nice long session.

Even better, your creativity has not been ignored. Just like a character sheet, which creates a strong framework for your players to paint a picture of their own custom charater, WorldSmith creates the framework for you to tell your own story without having to lean on standard DnD content or outsource your storytelling to a bot.

Save hours on session prep, and run a game that will blow your players’ minds.

Kenku Shaman - CR 3

Kenku Shaman - CR 3

A hush falls as a black-feathered figure steps from the shadows, its long beak hidden behind a carved wooden bird mask. Its hands move with unsettling grace, each gesture precise and practiced, while its head tilts as if listening to voices no one else can hear. When it speaks, the words come in borrowed fragments—perfectly copied from a merchant’s plea, a soldier’s bark, a child’s sob—woven together into an eerie chorus of stolen sounds. Around it, crows gather like omens, and the dark seems to thicken and cling to its feathers.

Kenku Rogue - CR 5 NPC with combat stats

A slight, black-feathered kenku with a long beak, clever hands, and a habit of standing half in shadow as if measuring every room twice. A heavy necklace of stolen signet rings clinks softly at its throat, each one polished with obsessive care. Its eyes flick constantly from mouth to mouth, posture to posture, as though it is always preparing to become someone else.
